Science Lessons
I have created many science lessons, which were developed in three difference science courses: biology, physical science, and science. I have them mixed together on this page. All of these lessons have been written in a 5E format, and are revolved around inquiry-based instruction. The lessons that I had a chance to teach are the Changes Over Time unit lessons, which are based on life long ago, such as dinosaurs, and the sun and moon. The formats of these lessons look quite different from each other as they were written for different courses; however, they are all generally written in the 5E format.
Some important information about the Changes Over Time unit lessons:
Some important information about the Changes Over Time unit lessons:
- They were written by five interns; including me. We all worked together to come up with the lessons using a Houghton Mifflin DiscoveryWorks Teaching Guide that was provided to us for the Changes Over Time unit, and for each lesson, a different intern typed up the lesson and led the lesson during instruction. The lesson that I typed up and taught is the How Do We Know What Extinct Animals Ate?
- Also, you will find that these lessons were conducted differently than the other science lessons you'll find here. Our basic approach was to engage the students, do the explore, explain and extend work in small groups of five students (one intern per group), and lastly, the class came together to complete the evaluation.
- Unfortunately, because of copyright reasons, I am not able to provide the hard copies of the worksheets used for the Changes Over Time unit lessons; however, the worksheets can be found in the Houghton Mifflin DiscoveryWorks Teacher Resource Book. The student examples that I have provided will give an idea of how the worksheets were used in the lessons.
